Bilbao, March 5, 2024 – The Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao (ACMB/BMZA) and the Basque Health Cluster (BHC) yesterday signed a collaboration agreement in Bilbao for the development of different training and informative activities in the field of health promotion organized by both entities. Agurtzane Ortiz, president of the ACMB/BMZA, and Asier Albizu, president of the Basque Health Cluster, who was accompanied by Idoia Muñoz, director of the BHC, took part in the signing of the document.
As Agurtzane Ortiz pointed out, “at the Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao we are pleased to form part of an organization that plays an important role in the health sciences in the Basque Country. It is a nexus of union between entities of different kinds but with a shared link: the promotion of the health and welfare of the population. Therefore, the Academy, as a reference entity in the generation and dissemination of multidisciplinary scientific knowledge, can and must play an important role in the transmission of this knowledge to the actors involved in the Basque Health Cluster and to society as a whole”.
For his part, Asier Albizu has declared that “from the Basque Health Cluster (BHC) we are very pleased to materialize this collaboration agreement between both entities, in order to actively collaborate in the promotion of the genesis of scientific knowledge and the organization of joint actions, through the dynamization of meeting spaces between our partner entities”.
The Academy of Medical Sciences of Bilbao was founded in 1895. During its more than 125 years of history, it has developed an important health and social work that it articulates through its different academic sections. From the beginning, it defined itself as a free and multidisciplinary institution made up of professionals in Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine, creating its own organ of expression, the Gaceta Médica de Bilbao (Medical Gazette of Bilbao). This publication is the official scientific journal of the Academy and is the dean of the biosanitary journals in Spain. Since 2012 it has been published digitally and has its own web portal, where the journal is offered free of charge. Its Internet address is: www.gacetamedicabilbao.eus.
The Basque Health Cluster was born in October 2010, formed by a group of local entrepreneurs with the intention of joining forces. Several years later, the cluster is the benchmark association for the biosciences and health sector in the Basque Country. It brings together entities that develop products and services to improve people’s health and quality of life.
The mission of this entity is focused on contributing to the development, growth and internationalization of the associated companies through the configuration of a differential value proposal that boosts their competitive improvement, promotes dynamic cooperation between the different agents in the field of biosciences and health in the Basque Country and favors interaction with other sectors.
Among its main lines of action are technological innovation, sectorial growth and dynamization, the cluster’s value proposition and visibility, the search for investment and specialized financing, internationalization and the attraction and development of talent.
