Basque Health Cluster and the Association Against Cancer in Bizkaia launch the challenge “For cancer research talent”
-
The challenge is aimed at companies and professionals in the Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia and their customers and suppliers, with the aim of raising funds to finance a pre-doctoral grant for cancer research in Bizkaia.
On the occasion of World Cancer Research Day, on 24 September, Basque Health Cluster and the Association Against Cancer in Bizkaia have joined forces this morning to present the challenge “For research talent in cancer“.
As Asier Albizu, President of the Basque Health Cluster, reported, “The challenge will be launched to companies and professionals in the Science and Technology Park of Bizkaia with the aim of raising funds, between €24,000 and €96,000, to finance a pre-doctoral research grant in cancer in Bizkaia and, in this way, support young researchers. The challenge will be active between 24 September and 4 February“.
Mila Gullón, President of the Association Against Cancer in Bizkaia, stressed the importance of supporting pre-doctoral grants in order not to lose research talent: “In this year’s national call for applications for pre-doctoral grants, 14 candidates from Bizkaia applied. All of them have been pre-selected by the Scientific Foundation of the Association Against Cancer to be evaluated by the State Research Agency of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The Bizkaia Association Against Cancer has approved the awarding of 3 grants, but some talent has been left out. That is why we are launching this challenge, we need more funding so as not to leave so much talent out“. She also announced that today, 22 September, the call for applications for the 2023 pre-doctoral grants opens. The deadline for submitting applications will be open until 20 October.
José María Mato, Director General of CIC bioGUNE and CIC biomaGUNE, also took part in the press conference in support of this initiative and to testify to the importance of predoctoral grants and the importance of having predoctoral researchers for a research centre.
