Last Thursday, November 16, the 2023 Healthcare Forum took place at the Hotel Domine in Bilbao. It was an X-ray and a CAT scan, complete blood tests or any other diagnostic method you prefer; it was a deep and detailed look at the Basque healthcare to know in what state it is, what innovative projects are at the tip of the iceberg, what are the latest generation technologies that are just around the corner, without forgetting the importance of prevention and the decision to focus the focus of interest to people; that citizens become the protagonist and active agent of their health and welfare, physical and mental. Not for nothing, the general manager of Noticias Taldea Multimedia (NTM), Iñaki González, took advantage yesterday of the words of welcome to the II Health Forum organized by Grupo Noticias under the title Challenges and Opportunities to recall that “five years ago we were talking about services and today we are talking about health”. Iñaki recalled that “the people’s demand for solutions has accelerated” and left on the table a possible formula: investment + research + innovation + solution “to give a picture of the reality as close as possible”.
To look at everything with a magnifying glass – or to be more precise, under the microscope… – Begoña Zuñiga marked the path along which the forum was going to pass (biomedicine, biopharmacy, innovative projects, technology, financing, preventive health and even healthy lifestyle habits… ) before giving way to María Eugenia Puertas, financial manager of Bexen Medical and treasurer of the Basque Health Cluster, who gave a talk on The biohealth sector in the Basque Country as an international benchmark and Km0 challenges where she spoke, among many other things, about the Strategic Health Plan 2030. The talk was followed by a round table in which Juan Basterra, CEO of Mikrobionik; José Antonio de la Rica, director of Social and Health Care of the Basque Government; and Eider Sánchez, co-founder & CEO of Naru Intelligence, took the floor. Each of these voices contributed ideas for the future and knowledge harvested over time at a table entitled Integral health, innovation and social and healthcare policies.
The event was attended by the general business director of Grupo Noticias, Luis Andreu, Anton Ilarduya, who was in charge of making sure everything ran smoothly; Joseba Vidorreta, Isidoro Beltrán, María Agirre, Iker Clausín, Juan Carlos Gutiérrez, Solana Pinillos, Sandra Morales, Elena Villaizán, Olga Shaporal, Itziar Leal, Gorka García, Eneka Iribarren, Erik Pérez, Olga Basuma, from the UPV/EHU, Marta Berbel, Susana Muro and another handful of people interested in the near future of Basque health.
The aim is to carry out research and innovation with the capacity to transfer the results to improve the health of citizens, to improve the performance of the system itself and to generate wealth and employment. That is the conclusion.
