Thanks to the recent installation of a photovoltaic park in the parking area, Asuncion Klinika in Tolosa has started this week to generate up to 25% of its electricity from solar energy.
Asuncion Klinika proudly becomes the first healthcare center in Euskadi to have a photovoltaic park that produces up to 25% of its electricity consumption in a 100% renewable manner. With an investment of nearly half a million euros, this initiative is part of a long-term sustainability plan developed over more than a decade, aimed at moving towards a more environmentally-friendly hospital model.
In recent years, the hospital has achieved significant sustainability milestones, including a 7% reduction in overall electricity consumption, a 20% decrease in CO2 emissions related to energy consumption, water use, and paper, among others. The installation of a biomass boiler for hot water and heating has almost eliminated the use of over 120,000 liters of diesel annually.
Additionally, the comprehensive renovation of the facility was carried out with strict environmental sustainability criteria, including solar light utilization, intelligent climate control, and energy efficiency systems. By 2024, the hospital aims to achieve the European EMAS certification, aligning its environmental management with that of leading public and private hospitals nationwide.
The hospital is also making strides in telemedicine, with a tele-rehabilitation service already in operation that has been well received by users. In the medium term, the launch of similar services is planned to expand healthcare coverage and reduce the impact of mobility.
